War Time Philippines: A Besieged Presidency

Published by RedBlueThoughts at 10:01 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Marines are dying in Mindanao. In the North, Army soldiers are being massacred by Communist rebels. In Metro Manila, crimes are rising everyday and beginning to get gruesome. This happens even in Cebu and the rest of the Visayas. The people are agitated, yet disorganized.

The international community has joined the fray. Various international bodies are attacking GMA for the extra-judicial killings and the rise of desaperidos. The scenario has gone back to the conditions of 1986.

War is definitely a certainty. War hawks inside Malacanan palace are gearing for a showdown with the Moro militants. Through their spokesperson, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Esperon, the administration is looking to replicate what Erap did during his time–wipe away the MILF. Unlike Reyes however, Esperon knows he’s in a weak state. The AFP is in disarray, wracked by dissenters, grafters and what-have-yous. Threats abound everywhere.

That’s why Esperon talks of war against the Moros but truce with the Communists. He knows that a war on all these fronts would open the administration up to attacks. Look what happened with Marcos. It was repeated with Erap.

You can definitely see that the state is a weakened state because the AFP Chief of Staff himself is offering peace to the enemies of the state. Emboldened by the foolishness of Esperon, Communist ideologue Joma Sison threatened the government with conditions for accepting a truce. Likewise, the MILF also issued statements saying that they will not return the firearms confiscated from the dead Marines without a letter from the AFP leadership. Such is the sorry state of the AFP that its enlightened members must act now to save it from further humiliation.

I call upon the Bagong Katipunan of the 3rd Generation whose members I so admire—This is a veritable call to arms. Save the military and the state from these weaklings. Save the entire country from going to the dogs. Save us from this decrepit administration. It is time to act. It is time to make history.

Civil disobedience can only work under the presumption that the forces of the enemy is greater than the force of the People. Under this government, the force of the People is stronger than the anti-democratic forces. Hence, civil disobedience is not encouraged. A coup cum revolution seems more suited in this kind of problem.
