A Manila Standard Today news article said that cops at the Western Police District (WPD) are killing themselves. Reason? Stress and Money.

WPD Director Yanquiling said that a number of cops under his watch have taken their own lives because of money/financial woes.

Others have stricken ill because of work pressures. I think though that it is more about money problems than anything else.

If you’re a clean cop, chances are, you’re poor. If you’re a dirty cop, chances are, you’re filthy rich. More and more cops are choosing to be poor than to be rich.

I admire these cops who continue to go the clean route. Though their families are suffering, nonetheless, they would opt to sacrifice their futures instead of receiving dirty money.

Suggestion: the internal department of the PNP should assign more police psychologists in all districts to ensure the psychological health of our cops.

I appeal to GMA to help our cops. Please madame president, increase the salaries of our cops. Help their families. Help those who protect us and make us safe.
